Montgenèvre is a charming alpine village situated at 1860m on the French Italian boarder that is linked to the “Via Lattea” known to us Brits as the Milky Way ski area. The Milky Way has 400kms of slopes and a ski holiday here provides fantastic access to great Italian resorts such as Claviere, Sauze d’Oulx and Sestriere.
Montgenèvre is the only French ski resort that is in the Milky Way, and the surrounding ski area is perfectly suited for beginners and intermediates. For the more adventurous there is easy access into the Milky Way where there is plenty of challenging pistes and the 2006 Winter Olympics where held. Whatever type of ski holiday you want, we have a wide choice of winter Montgenèvre ski holiday packages to choose from where you can fly form your local regional airport.
The resort is a small but attractive village, built in 1907 and is one of the first ever French ski resorts. Although not as lively as some of the other French and Italian resorts there is still plenty to do. Also with 4 major airports close by the Montgenevre benefits from a short transfer and really is a great choice for families.

Montgenèvre is a high resort on the French side of the Milky Way circuit with 400km of slopes there really is something for everyone from beginners through to advanced. Compared to most of the other large ski areas in France there are hardly any lift queues in Montgenevre even during the half term dates! The highest lift is at 2800m and with many of the slopes above 2000m so it is snow sure.
There are plenty of beginner slopes on the Montgenèvre side of the Milky Way and nursery slopes in the village, that are nice and wide and covered in sunshine, are perfect for children and to learn on.
The area is great for intermediates with endless trails above the treeline, with plenty of routes diving down through the trees. Popular choices include the wide runs down from Les Anges and Le Chavlet a long red that goes across the valley. The Milky Way has such a large variety of slopes Montgenevre really is a resort for skiers and boarders that like to explore rather than doing the same slopes over and over again.
There is some challenging off piste routes here, however, a guide is often recommended. Also heli-skiing is available close by where there are 2 drop-offs on Italian peaks that are over 3000m.
Holidays here are a great choice for boarders, as there is a snow park that is fenced off form the rest of the slopes to enable a premium area to show off tricks.
Popular bars include Le Graal and the Chaberton pub but there are many more to choose from. The Club Blue night is a great nightclub to finish off the night dancing.
There is a great choice of restaurants and cafes to choose from offering local specialties.
There is a floodlit ice rink, cinema, snowmobile tours and the chance to dine in a mountain restaurant.
