Top 5 Things To Do on Your Tignes Ski Holiday

Posted by: Brandon Fryer 2 years, 7 months ago

The stunning Tignes is one of France’s most popular ski holiday destinations. It’s open from November through to April, with its 2100m height providing plenty of snow for the entire winter season. With over 130 pistes that range from beginner to advanced levels, there is no shortage of skiing options. But outside of the standard slope action, there are a variety of fantastic things to do to ensure you make the most of your Tignes ski holiday.

The Eye of the Needle

The Aiguille Percée, also known as the eye of the needle, is a famous rock formation in Tignes that offers breath-taking panoramic views of the valley. This is the perfect place to take some photos and enjoy some food before skiing or walking back down to the resort. This is an absolute must for James Bond fans, as the location was featured in the 1985 ‘A View to Kill’ film and saw Roger Moore ski through the eye of the needle in an iconic chase sequence.

Visit Val D’Isère

With Tignes forming part of the Espace Kily ski area, you will have easy access to the ski resort and town of Val d’Isère. With Tignes is a purpose-built resort, you will be able to experience a different and unique atmosphere in Val d’Isère. It features a beautiful traditional village with a rare old-fashioned feel, offering prestigious slopes thanks to its position as host of the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup. While you visit, why not check out their array of gourmet restaurants and wonderful shops. La Folie Douce is one of our favourites - a mountain bar and restaurant that is part of an amazing chain with outlets only in the greatest ski resorts across the globe.

Ice Driving

When you’ve had enough of the slopes, you can swap your skis for the wheel of a car in an ice driving experience. With different activity options available, you can decide whether you want to hand over the controls to the professional or have lessons to learn yourself! In these you’ll learn emergency braking, turning, counter-steering, skidding, and a variety of other tricks. But don’t worry - you will be under the supervision of the certified instructors who will ensure your experience is as safe as it is enjoyable.

Le Lagon Aqua

One of the top après activities in Tignes is the Le Lagon Sports Centre, which offers visitors a range of sports and wellbeing experiences. The fun swimming pool is perfect for entertaining families with younger children, with features such as a 3-lane slide, waterfall, bubble bed and counter-current area. Families can also come together for a range of aquatic activities and sports. For adults, there is a 25-metre sports pool and wellness area with saunas, hammams steam baths and hot tubs.

Dog Sledding

Explore the slopes in the most authentic way – aboard a sleigh that is being transported at high speeds throughout the wilderness by some furry friends. The dogs are Husky, Samoyed, and Malamute breeds, and have amazing physical abilities that allow them to cover an impressive 60 km each day. Don’t worry – the dogs love their job and have just as much fun as you during the journey. Expert mushers will take you on your dog sledding expedition, allowing you to sit back and admire the beautiful mountain views. You can also have the option to steer the dogs yourself and act as the guide for the pack.
